Attention! The movie that David worked on last summer is here. His scenes are in the beginning of the movie, Indianna Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Action takes place on Yale University's campus, as the academic setting for Indie. David's job is to location manage, so he was in charge of making 4 sets of constructions sites go away, or promising a bride that Indie's motorcycle would not disrupt her service when Indie goes roaring by. These are some examples.
This is the movie where it was my 30th birthday (June 5th!) and I packed my bags on a Thursday, got a dog sitter for Gerdy and the cats, took the train to New Haven, CT like a big girl, and was ready for a 30th birthday surprise getaway to Nantucket. Except that, come Friday morning, the team of Very Important People (like, the director) for whatever reason didn't make the flight from LA to NYC, and so had to do their big scout on Saturday, which was exactly when we were supposed to be on vacation. Let me put it to you this way. If you've ever heard of a Katie Kaboom, this was one such time (I was really PMSing, so that didn't help). The weekend started with me at a LaQuinta in the industrial part of New Haven next to an Ikea, which I couldn't access. I was paying my dog sitter to dog sit Gerdy so that I could be in a LaQuinta.
But, the good that came out of it, was that I found my very favorite hair salon (in New Haven) who does all of my dark brown coloring and good layers, and I discovered that I can do very good design work in coffee shops if I haven't gotten out of the Home Office in a while. We also discovered the Thimble Islands, which are opposite from the Long Island Sound, and I personally would have loved to live there, but David says that the 2 hour commute is too long. One and a half hours for me by train, but he needs his car. Not looking to reduce that carbon footprint.
So anyway, please go see the movie!

Let's Go Outback Tonight - NJ Style
Posted by Unknown
David and I had a very eventful weekend - of movie going! We ended on an up-note (which involved Ben & Jerries AND a brownie sunday) by going on our favorite kind of date - driving across the George Washington bridge to Edgewater, New Jersey, to have dinner at Outback and a movie at a megaplex theater with 16 screens, Ben & Jerries, burgers, pizza, video games, and more. Going to Outback is exciting for us, because living in New York City, we just don't have access to bad chain restaurants in strip malls with Target right next door. And when one doesn't have access to those things anymore, one grows nostalgic (but we'll never be nostalgic for Applebees, or at least I won't). It's always kind of scary in New Jersey with those thick accents I cannot understand, but the plan was hatched because I wanted to go to Staples in NJ hoping to find lower prices there for a new plastic monthly file thing for my monthly bills, and other office supplies for a reason I will disclose soon...clue: home office.
Very good. A satisfactory Spanish Alice in Wonderland, but with fairies, not a cat named Dinah. A little gory, but it's fine, because by then you hate the antagonist so much. The film was sold out, so we bought tickets to Children of Men, but snuck into Labyrinth moments before all of the seats filled up. We are action-movie-goers!
Children of Men (7)
Also good, but probably would have been better if I had read the book. I suspect it's one of those book movies where lots of juicy things are left out, and only the people who read the book catch on at lightening speed, where as the rest of us are given measly clues and filling in the blanks takes away from the movie rather than add to it. I would have rented this film, but David protested, saying he could not see anything else until he saw this. So we saw it.
Notes on a Scandal (7)
What a movie to follow up David's protest with! I had no idea what the plot was, but I love Judi Dench and Cate Blanchet, so we saw this one last night before our Outback dinner. Woa! It really is a scandal. Good for grandmothers like mine who are named Nana and read the Enquirer weekly and know the complete history of the Camilla-Diana-Charles triangle. This movie has nothing to do with those people, but it's to illustrate what kind of people would like this movie.

The Prestige - LOVED
Posted by Unknown
That's right. LOVED it. And it wasn't even that I was swooning all over Christian Bale's lower middle class bad English accent, or that I wanted Scarlett Johansson's bosoms, golden locks, corsets and tulle skirts. The story was amazing, easy to keep up with, yet tricky enough to keep you looking for the secret. What a refreshing movie. Perfect escape for a Friday evening.
Go here and check out a trailor. David and I have practically memorized all of the lines in the trailor - in English accent - because we've seen it so many times. Heck, I thought It had already come out last month. There is: "No...more...secrets!" or "It's not a trick - it's real." or "And then there's the third act." Actually that's all I can remember now that I've seen the whole thing.
